Ram Quarter's brewery shortlisted for major architecture award

News 27 September 2024

Sambrook's Brewery at Ram Quarter has been named as a finalist for the prestigious AJ Architecture Awards 2024 in the 'Leisure' category.

As a tenant of Ram Quarter, Sambrook's is part of Greenland's careful redevelopment of the former Young's brewery complex in the heart of Wandsworth Town.  It is the oldest continuously brewing site in the UK, with an unbroken beermaking tradition dating back to at least 1533.

The design of Sambrook's space by Roger Mears Architects celebrates this special legacy through sensitive preservation of the Grade II listed brewery buildings, which date from the 18th century.  It blends historic and modern elements with a new layout and finishes to create an inviting space for 21st century beer lovers.  The taproom is next to a dedicated Heritage Centre which provides visitors with an understanding of Wandsworth's unique industrial past.

The shortlisting of the brewery reflects both the industry-leading quality and creativity of the design, as well as the development's contribution to community life in Wandsworth.

The winners will be announced in December 2024 at the AJ Architecture Awards ceremony in London.
